MEET URLA

I’ve been on your side of the counter.

Hi, I’m Urla, the founder of Handle Bar.

For 18 years, I owned and operated Winks Eyelash Boutique in Toronto.

I wasn’t a lash technician. My job was building and running the business. And somewhere along the way, marketing became my favorite part.

And I love marketing.

It started with curiosity—and a little frustration.

I’d hired people to help with marketing, but I wanted to understand what was actually happening behind the scenes.

And as a customer, I’d notice things.

I’d buy something from a business, and a month later, an offer would arrive in my inbox. Or I’d leave something in an online shopping cart, and a few days later, I’d get a reminder.

I’d think, “How did they do that? I want to do that!”

So I started looking behind the curtain.

I learned the tools, figured out how the different pieces worked together, and started putting them to use in my own business.

Over the years, I learned a lot more than I’d realized.

But I also know what happens behind the scenes of running a business.

I’ve managed staff, dealt with overhead, navigated recessions, survived pandemic shutdowns, and made the countless decisions that come with keeping a brick-and-mortar business running.

So when you tell me what’s happening in your business, I get it.

I understand that your day doesn’t always go according to plan. That you have customers to look after, people depending on you, and a hundred things competing for your attention.

So, why Handle Bar?

After Winks closed, I began focusing on marketing for other businesses.

And as I started doing that, something struck me.

I’d been doing so much of this work for years that I’d almost taken it for granted. But when I started putting everything together for other businesses, I realized just how much was involved.

And I thought, how is a business owner supposed to keep up with all of this, especially when they’re also the one doing the actual work?

When I started exploring what other marketing agencies were offering, I noticed something else.

Websites. Social media posts. Content. Email marketing.

Everything seemed to be sold separately.

And to me, those things felt incomplete.

What’s the point of building someone a website if you already know they’re going to struggle with what happens next?

I couldn’t see myself selling individual marketing pieces and leaving business owners to figure out the rest.

That’s why I created Handle Bar.

To build a marketing foundation where the pieces are connected, work together, and give business owners something they can keep building on.

Whether they want to learn to do it themselves or have someone look after it.

I speak business owner. And I love marketing.

That’s what I bring to Handle Bar.
